Jan Böhmermann travels across Germany on e-scooter for special episode

Satirist Jan Böhmermann has undertaken an unusual journey across Germany on an electric scooter. The expedition, spanning over 600 kilometers from Cologne to Chemnitz, has been documented for a special episode of "ZDF Magazin Royale" titled "Deutschland – Eine Erfahrung." The episode is scheduled to air on ZDF today at 11 PM and will be available for streaming on Joyn.

The journey commenced on April 11 from Cologne-Ehrenfeld, with only two pre-determined stops: Cologne Cathedral and the final destination, Chemnitz. Böhmermann's primary mode of transport was an e-scooter named "Kadmos 3," reportedly inspired by a Greek hero. The route traversed four federal states, passing through cities and rural areas, and lasted six days amidst diverse weather conditions.

Böhmermann stated his motivation for the trip was to physically experience Germany's contemporary challenges. He described the extended e-scooter journey as "the only real way to physically feel the challenges of our time." His aim was to "personally experience what I otherwise only talk about from my desk: Germany."

The program is produced by ZDF and can be accessed live and on-demand via the Joyn streaming service. This special episode is part of Böhmermann's broader content offerings on ZDF, with further specials planned.
