The Japan Tourism Agency hosted the "Japan-U.S. Tourism and Culinary Night" in New York City on September 22. The event aimed to showcase the diverse appeal of Japan's tourism destinations and food culture to the U.S. market.

Held at Gotham Hall, the event featured tourism booths highlighting various regions and attractions across Japan, including the "Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara," recently designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Attendees had the opportunity to experience Japan's cultural offerings, cuisine, sake, and other distinct products.

Approximately 220 people attended, including representatives from the tourism industry, media, and political and business circles. A video message from Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi expressed hope for increased exchanges between Japan and the U.S. and a growing interest in Japan through its tourism and food culture. She also mentioned the upcoming International Horticultural Expo 2027 in Yokohama and the launch of new direct flights by United Airlines from San Francisco to regional Japanese destinations.

Robert O’Leary, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Travel and Tourism at the U.S. Department of Commerce, spoke at the event, emphasizing the strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries and Japan's appeal to American travelers. The event also featured special dishes, including non-gluten rice flour-based pastries and Japanese seafood and wagyu beef from various prefectures.
