PARIS – JCDecaux SE, a global leader in outdoor advertising, announced Monday that it has decided not to proceed with the acquisition of Clear Channel's business in Spain. The company had signed an agreement to acquire Clear Channel Spain in May 2023, subject to approval from the Spanish competition authority.

After more than 14 months of examination by the Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia, JCDecaux has withdrawn. The company cited indications from the Spanish Authority regarding the nature, schedule, and implementation of required commitments as reasons for questioning the economic and strategic interest of the operation.

The intended acquisition was meant to complement JCDecaux's existing presence in the Spanish market. The lengthy review process by the competition regulator highlights the complexities of large-scale mergers and acquisitions in the European advertising sector.

JCDecaux is the number one out-of-home media company worldwide, with a daily audience of 850 million people in more than 80 countries. The company operates a vast network of advertising panels across street furniture, transport, and billboards.
