JCDecaux Installs 200 Small Cells in Amsterdam to Boost Network Coverage

JCDecaux, in partnership with Vodafone Netherlands and Alcatel-Lucent, has deployed 200 small cells across Amsterdam to improve mobile network coverage. The project integrated these compact network boosters into existing JCDecaux street furniture.

These installations were strategically placed at 200 tram stops, areas often experiencing high user demand. Each small cell is designed to support approximately 200 simultaneous connections within a 600-meter radius, significantly boosting data capacity and service quality.

Vodafone provided its expertise in mobile communication networks, while Alcatel-Lucent developed the small cell technology. JCDecaux contributed by providing prime locations within its advertising network and managing the integration and connectivity of the devices.

This initiative, completed during the winter of 2015-2016, addresses the growing demand for mobile data in urban environments by densifying network infrastructure where it is most needed.
