JCDecaux Rolls Out Next-Generation Public Toilets for Paris

JCDecaux has initiated the rollout of new-generation public toilet facilities for the City of Paris. The project aims to improve services for citizens and the millions of tourists visiting the city, particularly in anticipation of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The City of Paris commissioned JCDecaux in 2022 to replace and modernize its existing 435 public toilet facilities following a competitive tender process. After a two-year manufacturing period, the new facilities, described as more hygienic, eco-friendly, and with higher capacity, are now beginning to replace the older models.

Installation of the new toilets at Olympic Games venues is scheduled for completion by early July 2024. The remaining facilities will be installed between September 2024 and May 2025. JCDecaux, in partnership with Enedis and Eau de Paris, will replace approximately ten toilets per week across the city, with installations taking place at night to minimize disruption to traffic and pedestrian flow.

The new facilities incorporate technological advancements, including faster operation, hands-free interfaces, and an additional urinal cabin. The capacity to serve simultaneous users is doubled, and service availability is quadrupled. Water consumption is reduced by nearly two-thirds and electricity consumption by one-third compared to previous models. Manufacturing also focused on reducing emissions through lighter materials and optimized design.
