JD.com secures conditional EU approval for $2.5 billion Ceconomy deal
European regulators have approved JD.com’s acquisition of German retailer Ceconomy, subject to conditions aimed at ensuring fair competition in the European market.

JD.com received European Union approval on November 3 for its $2.5 billion acquisition of German electronics retailer Ceconomy. The company plans to finalize the transaction by November 12, marking a major expansion of its retail footprint in Europe through the MediaMarkt and Saturn chains.
The European Commission conducted a review under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation, scrutinizing potential state-backed advantages. To mitigate concerns regarding market distortion, JD.com has pledged to conduct all financing and business operations with Ceconomy strictly on market terms.
Furthermore, the regulator mandates that JD.com must grant third-party retailers non-discriminatory access to its logistics and warehousing network. These conditions are designed to prevent the cross-subsidization of the company’s European operations, ensuring that the acquisition does not impede fair market competition.
