Jeff Bezos Predicts AI Will Create Labor Shortages
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos believes AI will boost productivity enough for a single income to support a family. He predicts labor shortages rather than mass unemployment.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has presented an unexpected forecast for the future of artificial intelligence (AI). Unlike many other industry leaders who warn of mass unemployment, Bezos believes AI will instead lead to labor shortages. The technology is anticipated to significantly increase productivity.
In an interview with Fox News, Bezos stated that AI could alter the economic landscape, making it possible for a single income to cover a family's expenses, thereby reducing the necessity for dual-income households. "You're not going to need to have a two-earner income household," Bezos said.
Furthermore, Bezos suggested that the productivity gains from AI might enable shorter workweeks. He posits that workers could manage with a three-day workweek if the technology effectively frees up time. "Some people will also decide, you know what, I can support my family working three days a week," Bezos added.
Bezos does not foresee AI resulting in widespread joblessness. Instead, he anticipates individuals opting to work less or exit the workforce altogether, leading to a reduction in the overall labor supply. While Bezos has previously discussed AI's potential, his recent comments diverge from the concerns many other tech leaders have expressed regarding job displacement.
