Jiangxi Wisevision Optronics Co., Ltd. has clarified the role of Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) technology in the displays of everyday electronic devices like smartphones and computers. The company identifies TFT as the core component enabling clear and smooth image rendering.

TFT, or Thin-Film Transistor, acts as an individual microscopic switch for each pixel on a screen. Millions of these switches, arranged on a substrate, precisely control the amount of light passing from the backlight to each pixel, ultimately forming the visible image.

The company highlighted that TFT revolutionized display control by introducing "active matrix addressing," a significant improvement over older "passive matrix" methods. Each pixel having its own TFT switch allows for faster response times, reduced motion blur, and improved energy efficiency.

Contrary to a common misconception, Jiangxi Wisevision states that TFT is not a display type itself but rather the "underlying brain" or control system. It is essential for technologies like TFT-LCD and is also used in OLED displays to ensure high resolution and image quality.

The evolution of TFT technology is linked to advancements in semiconductor materials, from early amorphous silicon (a-Si) to the higher-performance Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon (LTPS) used in many modern high-end displays.
