Jingdezhen Porcelain Industry Sites Added to UNESCO World Heritage List

The Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites were inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List on July 25, 2026, during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea. This inscription makes it China's 61st World Heritage site.

Located in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, East China, the sites preserve a complete handicraft porcelain production system that flourished between the 10th and 19th centuries. The region's rich deposits of porcelain stone and kaolin clay, along with an extensive water transport network, transformed the city into the world's foremost center for porcelain production.

The heritage property comprises 45 component sites spread across 1,979 hectares. These include porcelain workshops in the historic urban center, raw material extraction sites, transportation routes, and traditional neighborhoods, collectively illustrating the industry's entire production chain.

According to UNESCO, the property demonstrates the innovative development of China's handicraft porcelain making technology, art, and industry. It also evidences the profound impact of China's porcelain industry on the global ceramic sector and the exchange of cultures.
