Jingdezhen's handcrafted porcelain heritage added to World Heritage List
UNESCO has inscribed China's "Jingdezhen handcrafted porcelain heritage" onto the World Heritage List. A companion game showcasing the city's porcelain craft was also launched.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) inscribed China's "Jingdezhen handcrafted porcelain heritage" onto the World Heritage List on July 25. The decision was made during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee, making Jingdezhen China's 61st World Heritage site.
On the same day as the inscription, an official game, "Digital Jingdezhen · Porcelain City Little Craftsman," was launched. Developed collaboratively by Jingdezhen authorities and Tencent, the game utilizes technologies such as AI digital humans and AI 3D generation. It allows players to embody a young artisan and experience the thousand-year evolution of Jingdezhen's porcelain industry, interacting with an "AI master" to learn about the craft's history.
The game focuses on simulating the entire porcelain-making process, from selecting clay and shaping vessels to glazing, high-temperature firing, and decorative painting. It offers a variety of options, including 20 vessel shapes, 54 patterns, 87 decorative motifs, and 20 glaze colors, enabling players with no prior experience to engage in handcrafted porcelain creation.
The World Heritage listing recognizes Jingdezhen's historical significance as a global center of porcelain production. The city's long-standing tradition and continuous development in the porcelain industry have cemented its international reputation. The digital game aims to further promote this cultural legacy to a wider audience.
