Shengzhou Jinwei Electric Heating Appliance Co., Ltd., a Chinese manufacturer, has published a guide detailing the impact of order volume on the unit pricing of custom electric heating elements.

The company identifies the transition from a 500-unit order to a 2,000-unit order as the point where the most significant reduction in per-unit cost occurs. While moving from 2,000 to 10,000 units offers further savings, these incremental gains are less substantial as many cost categories have already achieved their first price break by the 2,000-unit threshold.

Tooling costs are highlighted as the primary variable affecting unit price. At the 500-unit tier, tooling is either itemized separately or fully absorbed into an already elevated per-unit price. By the 10,000-unit tier, tooling costs are amortized across a much larger volume, leading to a considerably lower per-unit cost.

Raw material prices, such as those for resistance wire and insulation powder, also benefit from volume-based discounts. Orders of 500 units typically incur retail pricing for materials, whereas 2,000 and 10,000 unit orders access the first and subsequent wholesale price breaks.

Furthermore, the guide notes that certification costs, including CE marking and RoHS compliance, are largely fixed regardless of order size. Consequently, the per-unit burden of certification decreases significantly, up to 20-fold, when scaling from 500 to 10,000 units, contributing substantially to the lower unit price for larger production runs.
