JioStar appeals Kerala court order halting 'Anali' web series
JioStar India Pvt. Ltd. has appealed a Kerala court's decision to maintain an injunction halting its web series 'Anali.' The series is allegedly inspired by the Koodathayi murders, and the accused, Jolly Joseph, sought to stop its release.
JioStar India Pvt. Ltd. is appealing a Kerala court's ruling that upholds an injunction preventing the release of its web series, titled 'Anali.' The series is reportedly based on the Koodathayi serial murders, for which Jolly Joseph is a primary accused.
The dispute originated when Joseph, who is awaiting trial for the alleged murder of six family members, argued that the series could harm her reputation and create prejudice regarding her guilt. She had initially sought a ban on the series' release and promotion from the Kerala High Court.
However, the High Court directed Joseph to pursue an alternative remedy under digital media guidelines after JioStar rejected her complaint. She subsequently filed a civil suit, and a local court granted an interim injunction on August 19, restraining the series' release. JioStar challenged this order.
JioStar's attempt to have the injunction lifted was rejected by the lower court on October 5. Following this, JioStar approached the High Court again, which suggested an appeal. The company has now filed an appeal with the Second Additional Sub Court in Ernakulam.
In its appeal, JioStar contends that the injunction was granted without reviewing the completed series or identifying specific scenes or dialogue that would establish guilt. The court is scheduled to hear the appeal on October 15, and the injunction remains in effect.
