JLT introduces tougher screen and improved performance for logistics computer

JLT Mobile Computers, a developer of rugged computers for demanding environments, has introduced the JLT1214P logistics computer. This updated model builds upon the established JLT1214 platform, now incorporating enhanced processing power and a newly developed Rugged Projective Capacitive Touch (PCT) display.

The company states the upgrades aim to reduce total cost of ownership and boost user productivity. Historically, resistive touch screens, common in logistics computers, have been prone to damage, often being the primary point of failure. JLT's new PCT screen utilizes a 1.8 mm thick hardened glass, described as virtually unbreakable, and has passed impact tests involving a 500g steel ball dropped from 1.2 meters. This design is intended to significantly extend the screen's lifespan and minimize operational downtime.

In terms of performance, the JLT1214P is equipped with a 64-bit Intel quad-core processor, offering increased speed and responsiveness compared to previous generations. The computer is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -35 to +55 degrees Celsius and meets IP65 standards for dust and water resistance. Its construction minimizes crevices between the screen and casing, preventing dirt accumulation and facilitating cleaning, which is beneficial for industries like food distribution.

Connectivity options include dual-band 802.11ac WLAN and Bluetooth EDR 4.0, supported by JLT's proprietary antenna technology. The device offers flexible power options for vehicle installations and includes a backup battery. The JLT1214P runs on Windows 10, 8.1, 7, or Embedded operating systems and is available with the JLT:Care service agreement for prompt repairs.
