Johanniter and Bundeswehr Medical Service Conduct Joint Training

Representatives from Johanniter in Saxony (Johanniter Unfall Hilfe e.V.) recently attended an information and training day (InfoDVag) hosted by the Bundeswehr's Medical Service (Sanitätsdienst der Bundeswehr) in Feldkirchen, Upper Bavaria. The event aimed to refine joint procedures and practice emergency response cooperation between military and civilian aid organizations.

During their stay at the "Gäuboden Kaserne" barracks, Johanniter representatives experienced an intensive week that included realistic first aid drills alongside military training. This encompassed elements such as formations and following commands, designed to ensure clear operational sequences in emergency scenarios. The exercise also provided an opportunity for personal familiarization with the Bundeswehr's Medical Service, its tasks, and capabilities.

Dirk Weigand, a representative for operational services at Johanniter's regional office in Saxony, described the experience as "exciting." He noted many similarities in approach between Johanniter and the Bundeswehr's Medical Service. Weigand emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and prior joint training for large-scale crisis events. Discussions and evaluations helped identify interfaces and clarify cooperation protocols.

The insights gained from the training will be incorporated into Johanniter's ongoing work in Saxony, particularly in education, operational concepts, and joint exercises with other civil protection partners. The ultimate goal is to improve readiness and ensure reliable assistance for saving lives, whether through civilian or military efforts.
