Johanniter Clinic in Treuenbrietzen Updates Focus

The Johanniter hospital unit in Treuenbrietzen, Germany, is celebrating its 35th anniversary by rebranding its service profile to the Center for Psychosocial Medicine and Mental Health. This strategic shift reflects an expanded understanding of mental healthcare, moving beyond treating illnesses to actively promoting mental well-being and considering societal influences.

According to Chief Physician Dr. Eike Ahlers, the new designation signifies an enhanced approach to care. The center will not only treat mental health conditions but also proactively foster mental health by systematically addressing social factors impacting individuals. The integration of its existing clinics for psychiatry and psychotherapy, and psychosomatics and psychotherapy, aims to create stronger synergies.

Significant structural expansions have occurred over the past five years. Inpatient bed capacity has increased from 60 to 76, and day-clinic places have grown from 42 to 73. A new psychiatric day clinic was also established in Beelitz-Heilstätten in 2025, complementing existing facilities in Treuenbrietzen, Bad Belzig, and Jüterbog. The center has also enhanced its outpatient services, opening specialized clinics for ADHD and Autism, as well as memory and addiction medicine consultations.

To mark the occasion and the World Mental Health Day, the center will host an opening and anniversary symposium on October 14, 2026. This event will introduce the new center and its offerings. The facility is also launching a podcast series, "Ich geh’ in die Psychiatrie" (I'm Going Into Psychiatry), to further engage the public and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues.
