John Hancock Financial Opportunities Fund Discloses Distribution Sources
John Hancock Financial Opportunities Fund announced the sources of its September 2026 distribution to shareholders, noting a portion represented a return of capital.

John Hancock Financial Opportunities Fund (NYSE: BTO) disclosed the sources of its quarterly distribution paid to shareholders on September 30, 2026. The closed-end fund, managed by John Hancock Investment Management LLC and subadvised by Manulife Investment Management (US) LLC, distributed $0.6500 per share.
The announcement, made as required by an SEC exemptive order, details the origins of the distribution. Over half of the distribution, specifically 52% ($0.3359 per share), came from net realized long-term capital gains. An additional 15% originated from net realized short-term capital gains, and 13% from net investment income.
Significantly, 20% of the distribution, amounting to $0.1280 per share, was categorized as a return of capital. The fund estimates it has distributed more than its income and net realized capital gains, leading to this portion being a return of invested principal, which does not necessarily reflect investment performance.
The distributions are part of the Fund's managed distribution plan, which provides for fixed quarterly payments. Shareholders are advised that these figures are estimates and not for tax reporting purposes. Official tax information will be provided separately.
