John Oliver Guest Stars on Soap Operas, Fans Call for Emmy
Comedian John Oliver has made surprise appearances on two daytime soap operas. His role in 'General Hospital' has sparked widespread discussion and calls for award recognition.

Comedian John Oliver, known for hosting HBO's "Last Week Tonight," has ventured into unexpected territory with guest appearances on two daytime soap operas. Following his recent stints on "General Hospital" and "Days of Our Lives," fans are actively campaigning for him to receive a Daytime Emmy award.
Oliver's interest in soap operas was publicly declared in March during an episode of "Last Week Tonight." He offered his acting services to any show willing to cast him. "I have a genuine love for soap operas," Oliver stated. "I want to be part of that world. I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I will be on your set so fast it’ll make your head spin."
To demonstrate his commitment, Oliver reenacted a scene from "General Hospital" and outlined specific conditions for his potential role: he wished to play a character with a "ridiculous name," not himself, and desired a dramatic storyline involving elements such as "murder or slapping." Nearly four months later, this aspiration materialized when he appeared on "General Hospital" as "Z," the director of a global spy agency, fulfilling all his requests, including a dramatic slap.
Oliver's performance, which featured him with darker hair, emerging from a helicopter, engaging in action, and receiving a slap from actress Laura Wright (Carly Spencer), has garnered significant praise on social media, with users describing him as a "natural" for the soap opera genre.
While his role on "General Hospital" has concluded, Oliver is also set to appear in episodes of "Days of Our Lives."
