Johnson & Johnson reports prostate cancer treatment reduces recurrence risk

Johnson & Johnson has released data showing that the use of Erleada (apalutamide) in combination with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) before and after surgery significantly lowers the risk of recurrence or death in high-risk prostate cancer patients compared to surgery alone. According to the findings, the regimen reduces the risk by 62%.

Additional findings from the study indicate that patients receiving the perioperative treatment experienced a 51% lower estimated risk of metastasis or death. Furthermore, the number of patients remaining free from subsequent treatments at the three-year mark was twice as high in the group receiving apalutamide compared to those who underwent surgery alone.

These results add to the clinical understanding of perioperative treatment strategies in oncology. Johnson & Johnson continues to monitor the long-term data for patients undergoing this regimen as the company evaluates the potential impact of pharmacological intervention on surgical outcomes for high-risk patients.
