Dr Josef Singer, a specialist in internal medicine with a focus on hematology, oncology, and immunology, is a key researcher at Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences. He is a senior physician at University Hospital Krems and leads research in immuno-oncology, taking over the organization of the Lower Austrian Oncology Day starting in 2024.

Singer's research career began during his medical studies at the Medical University of Vienna, focusing on novel cancer immunotherapies and the role of antibodies in tumor rejection. He also conducted research at King's College London. During his doctoral studies, he investigated IgE-based immunotherapies against cancer and collaborated with Harvard Medical School in Boston.

After returning to clinical practice and completing his specialization in hematology and oncology at University Hospital Krems, Singer shifted his focus to clinical studies and personalized medicine. He aims to improve patients' quality of life by gaining a deeper understanding of cancer cells and the immune system, with the university providing optimal conditions for basic research.

"Every cancer is as unique as the patient," states Dr Singer. His current research examines how the immune system can attack tumor cells, a project supported by seed funding. He is also involved in establishing a new PhD program in Tumor Biology at the university, highlighting the importance of nurturing young talent in research and clinical practice.
