Journalism Competition: #WhatWeNeed for a #BetterLife

Aktion Deutschland Hilft has initiated a journalism competition designed to shed light on the significance of humanitarian aid and its impact on people's lives. Journalists participating in the contest have produced reports detailing challenging circumstances and the work of aid organizations worldwide.

One participant, Christina Özlem Geisler, has created a blog post titled "#WhatWeNeed for a #BetterLife in the #Philippines." In her blog, she examines how the lives of residents in the Philippines have changed since Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. Geisler employs a variety of media, including text, video, Instagram posts, statistics, maps, and tweets, to narrate stories from the perspectives of both aid workers and victims. The report also includes photographs and information about typhoon characteristics.

The competition also features Jannis Carmesin's report "Ostafrika zwischen den Extremen" (East Africa Between Extremes), which addresses the effects of El Niño in East Africa. Carmesin illustrates how the same weather phenomenon can cause extreme drought in some regions and heavy rainfall in others.

Aktion Deutschland Hilft supports the competition in collaboration with the Federal Foreign Office. The objective is to raise awareness about humanitarian crises and the importance of aid work. The competition recognizes journalistic works that address these themes in a profound and high-quality journalistic manner.
