J.P. Morgan Invests Over $220 Million in Boston Community Development
Since 2016, J.P. Morgan’s Community Development Banking has provided $220 million in financing to support affordable housing and essential services across Boston.

J.P. Morgan’s Community Development Banking division has directed more than $220 million in financing toward community projects in Boston since 2016. The initiative focuses on addressing the persistent affordable housing shortage and supporting local infrastructure as the region faces rising costs of living.
The capital allocation includes $172 million dedicated to the development and financing of 742 affordable rental units. An additional $47 million has been deployed through New Markets Tax Credit equity to support critical services, including health centers, educational facilities, and food access programs. The remaining $4 million has been used for historic tax credits aimed at the preservation and repurposing of existing buildings.
The investment strategy addresses a significant housing burden in the Greater Boston area, where approximately half of all renters currently spend more than 30% of their income on housing. This effort complements J.P. Morgan’s broader expansion in Massachusetts, which has included the opening of over 95 Chase branches since 2018.
