J.P. Morgan Tools Combat E-commerce Fraud and False Positives
J.P. Morgan introduces Safetech Fraud Tools to reduce online booking fraud and incorrect declines, addressing significant challenges in industries like travel.

J.P. Morgan Structured Products B.V. has launched Safetech Fraud Tools, a new solution aimed at helping online merchants combat fraud and reduce the incidence of false positives. The online travel sector, characterized by frequent customer modifications to bookings, presents unique vulnerabilities that can lead to substantial financial losses.
Many online retailers have implemented automated fraud detection systems, only to encounter a rise in "false positives" – legitimate transactions mistakenly declined. One travel agency client experienced this issue, where its fraud prevention tool led to a high rate of legitimate order rejections. This resulted in increased chargebacks, penalty fees, and a greater need for manual review and dispute handling.
The Safetech Fraud Tools solution addresses this by combining J.P. Morgan's transaction processing expertise with a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application. It employs multi-layer device fingerprinting, dynamic risk scoring, and customizable rules to analyze hundreds of variables for fraudulent activity while minimizing the decline of valid transactions.
In one case, the implementation of these tools led to an 86 percent reduction in order decline rates and reduced chargebacks to as low as 0.05 percent for a travel client. This demonstrates the solution's effectiveness in protecting revenue for merchants amidst the growing risks associated with e-commerce expansion.
