Judge Rules Apple Does Not Need to Disclose SpaceXAI Settlement
A U.S. judge has denied OpenAI's request to unseal a settlement agreement between Apple and SpaceXAI. The judge found the settlement irrelevant to the ongoing lawsuit between OpenAI and SpaceXAI.
U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman in Texas has rejected a motion by OpenAI that would have required Apple to reveal a confidential settlement agreement reached with SpaceXAI. The ruling came yesterday, absolving Apple of the need to disclose the terms.
The judge stated that while there are precedents for unsealing settlement agreements, such cases typically involve information directly related to the pending legal dispute. In this instance, the court determined after a sealed review that the settlement between SpaceXAI and Apple did not contain information pertinent to the dispute between SpaceXAI and OpenAI.
The settlement between SpaceXAI and Apple was related to an antitrust lawsuit originally filed by Elon Musk's X Corp. (formerly Twitter) against Apple. SpaceXAI later withdrew its claims against Apple in that case but continued its legal action against OpenAI.
OpenAI had sought to make the Apple-SpaceXAI agreement public as part of its broader legal battle with SpaceXAI, reportedly suspecting it might be relevant to their ongoing dispute.
