Kahla-Porzellan to cease production after investor search fails

The traditional German porcelain manufacturer Kahla/Thüringen will cease its production at the end of 2026. Insolvency administrator Rolf Rombach announced on Wednesday that despite months of talks with potential investors, no sustainable solution could be reached. Recent negotiations with a Turkish investor also proved unsuccessful.

Rombach cited high energy costs as the main reason for the company's closure, stating that these costs have significantly impacted its financial situation. He expressed regret that no solution was found despite intensive efforts, acknowledging the company's importance. The state of Thuringia's authorities were kept informed of the developments.

The ongoing operations will be wound down in an orderly manner by the end of the year, with the aim of fulfilling existing orders. The company's planned porcelain market event has been cancelled.

Following the announcement of the closure, demand for Kahla porcelain has surged, leading to temporary website crashes. The company, which currently employs 96 people, had previously filed for insolvency, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the energy crisis.
