Kalmar initiates safety update for Ottawa T2 terminal tractors
Kalmar is issuing a voluntary safety update for Ottawa T2 terminal tractor models due to a potential electrical insulation breakdown. The issue, in rare instances, can lead to thermal events.

Helsinki – Kalmar, a manufacturer of material handling equipment, has announced a voluntary safety update affecting specific Ottawa T2 terminal tractor models. The notice, filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on October 5, 2026, covers Ottawa T2 4x2 DOT/EPA, Ottawa T2 Off Road, and Ottawa T2 6x4 DOT/EPA configurations.
The issue stems from a breakdown in electrical insulation resistance in the cabin's power distribution board. In very rare circumstances, this has resulted in short circuits and thermal events. Kalmar states that less than 0.1% of the affected tractor units have experienced these incidents.
Kalmar is implementing corrective action by adding a remote ground stud (RGS/fuse) to isolate specific electrical circuits and prevent potential thermal events. The company will directly notify customers in the coming weeks with details on scheduling and implementing the RGS modification.
"Customer safety and the reliability of their operations are of utmost importance to us," said Thor Brenden, President, Terminal Tractors, Kalmar. "We are taking direct action to reach affected owners, provide clear guidance, and complete the necessary work to help keep their Ottawa T2 terminal tractor fleets productive."
