Cargo handling equipment manufacturer Kalmar has introduced Carbon Footprint Declarations (CFD) to transparently present the environmental impact of its products. These documents, based on the ISO 14067 standard, offer a streamlined summary of a product's comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA).

Kalmar adopted the CFD approach due to the absence of standardized methodologies for Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) specifically for cargo handling machines. This method allows Kalmar to provide consistent and credible data on its products' environmental performance.

The company has selected representative models across its main product categories, including both diesel and electric variants. This enables comparisons of potential CO2 emission reductions when shifting from diesel-powered to electric equipment, underscoring Kalmar's commitment to advancing sustainability in the industry.

The declarations provide details on the LCA methodology used, product model and capacity, material composition, and total CO2e emissions broken down by manufacturing, assembly, transportation, service, and product usage stages.
