Since its market entry in 2015, the Kalmar Eco Reachstacker has replaced older, larger-engine models with a design optimized for efficiency. Data from more than 500 units currently in operation shows that 60 machines have exceeded 10,000 hours of service, collectively preventing 39,000 tons of CO2 emissions and saving over 14 million liters of fuel.

The machine utilizes a hydromechanical variable transmission that allows the engine to run at a fixed, optimal speed regardless of vehicle movement. This technology contributes to a 40% reduction in fuel consumption compared to standard reachstackers manufactured 5–10 years ago. Increased acceleration and fewer refueling intervals allow operators to move approximately 1 to 1.5 more containers per hour, creating a cumulative productivity gain estimated at €1 million per machine over 10,000 operating hours.

According to Kalmar, the platform serves as a transition toward electrification. By training operators to manage power more efficiently and reducing engine noise, the transition to silent, electric-powered equipment is expected to become more seamless. The equipment is also certified for HVO100 fuel, allowing for a further reduction in fossil-fuel dependency.
