Kalmar Refurbishes Forklift to Extend Equipment Lifespan
Kalmar's modernization services have completed a full refurbishment of a 16-ton forklift, significantly extending its operational life for a Finnish stevedoring company.

Kalmar, a global provider of material handling solutions, has successfully refurbished an older 16-ton forklift at its workshop in Hamina, Finland. The project highlights the company's commitment to extending the service life of machinery and promoting resource efficiency.
The refurbished machine, a 2003 model DCE160 forklift, was recently delivered to a leading Finnish stevedoring company. While appearing almost new due to its repainting and servicing, the machine underwent a complete "nuts-and-bolts" overhaul, comparable to a classic car restoration.
The project involved full disassembly, rust removal, repainting, and the rebuilding or replacement of components in the engine, driveline, brakes, and cabin. The cabin received new parts such as the steering wheel and seat, while the engine bay was fitted with new hoses and connectors.
Kalmar Modernisation Services aims to give older equipment a new operational life through a moderate investment, supporting customers' commitments to the circular economy. The company noted that modernization projects are currently attracting significant customer interest, as they can extend equipment life by up to an additional full service term.
