Kalmar resident explores city's beaches by bicycle
Emmelie Brengesjö embarked on a project with her family to visit 15 beaches in Kalmar by bike. She discovered new favorite spots she might otherwise have missed.

Kalmar resident Emmelie Brengesjö initiated a project with her family to explore all the city's beaches by bicycle. The idea stemmed from a map marking 15 locations accessible by bike from their home.
Brengesjö explains that the goal motivated the family to try new places regardless of the weather. "We've discovered several new favorite spots we would never have found otherwise," she stated. The family found that cycling made beach trips easy, with the map on their fridge serving as inspiration.
Brengesjö likens the experience to discovering new aspects of her hometown. She particularly highlights winter swimming, an activity she recently embraced. "It's a real revitalizing experience to bathe when the water is very cold," she described.
The family's preferred beaches for children include Björkenäs, Ekö, and Värsnäs, offering beaches, jetties, and shaded areas. For solo swims, she recommends quieter locations like Svinö during the summer.
Brengesjö plans to continue her beach explorations this summer and aims to maintain a fresh perspective on her city. She specifically recalled a moment last August when, while swimming at Stensö near her home with friends, she was struck by the local beauty.
