Kalmar, a division of Cargotec, will deliver four automated straddle carriers and an emulation system to the EUROGATE container terminal in Wilhelmshaven. The contract was finalized and recorded in the company's fourth-quarter 2017 order intake.

The deployment utilizes Kalmar’s Terminal Logistics System (TLS), designed to integrate with the existing Navis N4 terminal operating system. According to the company, the system centralizes equipment control and security monitoring, a necessity for managing the increased volume generated by vessels exceeding 20,000 TEU capacity.

The project is managed in partnership with APM Terminals on a non-operational portion of the Wilhelmshaven site. The trial is scheduled to conclude by the end of the second quarter of 2019, at which point project partners will evaluate the technology for potential wider-scale implementation.
