Kalmar to supply electric straddle carriers to Port of Virginia
Kalmar has secured an order for ten electric straddle carriers from the Port of Virginia, with delivery expected in the third quarter of 2027.

Kalmar has finalized an agreement to deliver ten electric straddle carriers to the Port of Virginia on the U.S. East Coast. The order, booked in the company's third-quarter results for 2026, is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2027.
The equipment will be deployed at the Norfolk International Terminals, the port's largest facility. The units feature lithium-ion battery technology capable of up to 600 minutes of continuous operation and are equipped with integrated collision warning systems. This acquisition aligns with the port's goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2040.
This delivery marks a continuation of a commercial relationship between the parties dating back to 2007. With this addition, the Port of Virginia’s fleet of Kalmar straddle carriers will reach 113 units, supporting the terminal’s ongoing expansion and its transition toward more sustainable operations.
