Kalmar to supply four automated straddle carriers to VICT
Kalmar has signed an agreement to deliver four hybrid automated straddle carriers to Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT). Deliveries are expected to be completed by the end of Q1 2026.
Kalmar will supply four hybrid automated straddle carriers to Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) in Australia.
The agreement includes four automated straddle carriers, each with a 60-ton twin-lift capacity. The order was placed in Kalmar's Q2 2025 order intake, with deliveries scheduled for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
VICT is Australia's sole fully automated container terminal, owned by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. The 35-hectare terminal has a design capacity of 1.5 million TEU and is the only facility in Melbourne capable of handling the largest container vessels.
The terminal's automated operations are managed by the Kalmar One Automation System, a comprehensive solution integrating Kalmar's automated equipment with pre-integrated software. Kalmar will also provide ongoing maintenance and technical support for the terminal's automated container handling software. The new hybrid straddle carriers are designed for twin-lift operations and aim to increase productivity by reducing loading times.
VICT CEO Bruno Porchietto stated that Kalmar has been instrumental in their efforts to enhance productivity and customer satisfaction. He noted that VICT already utilizes Kalmar solutions and was pleased with the company's ability to engineer the straddle carriers to their specific requirements.
Karri Keskinen, Kalmar's Head of Global Sales, highlighted the company's long-standing and successful cooperation with VICT. He added that the new straddle carriers will further boost productivity and support the terminal in reliably meeting its customers' demands.
