Kalmar to supply reachstackers for SSAB's green steel production
Kalmar has secured an order for five reachstackers and a service agreement from SSAB for its Oxelösund mill. The equipment is slated for delivery in Q2 2026 to support the steelmaker's decarbonization efforts.
Kalmar, a provider of material handling solutions, announced an agreement with steel producer SSAB to supply five reachstacker machines to its Oxelösund mill in Sweden. The order, which includes a comprehensive service agreement for the machines, was booked in Kalmar's Q1 2025 order intake, with deliveries scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
SSAB is undertaking a significant green transition at its Oxelösund facility, including replacing blast furnaces with electric arc furnaces to reduce its carbon footprint. The new Kalmar reachstackers will be utilized to transport scrap steel to feed these furnaces. Notably, the machines will be partially manufactured using SSAB Zero™, a fossil carbon emission-free recycled steel.
The agreement deepens an existing relationship, as Kalmar already provides on-site maintenance services at the Oxelösund mill through a dedicated team of service technicians. The Kalmar Complete Care service agreement ensures proactive and corrective maintenance, aiming for maximum operational efficiency and equipment longevity.
This collaboration supports SSAB's broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions across its value chain and meet increasing demand for sustainable steel products. Kalmar's contribution includes providing specialized handling equipment and ensuring its continuous operation through dedicated on-site support.
