Kapsch TrafficCom's Mississauga Facility Produces 115 Million Toll Transponders

Kapsch TrafficCom has reached a milestone of 115 million toll transponders produced at its manufacturing facility in Mississauga, Ontario. The site, which employs over 100 people, now produces a new device approximately every three seconds.

The Mississauga facility, with a manufacturing history dating back to 1978, relocated to a new site on Crestlawn Drive in 2024. This move consolidated production and support teams while maintaining the capacity to produce millions of tolling and traffic technology devices annually.

Transponders manufactured at the facility are utilized in major North American tolling programs, including E-ZPass and Ontario's Highway 407. They are designed to facilitate accurate electronic toll collection, ensure reliable revenue capture, and reduce congestion by allowing drivers to pay tolls without stopping.

Operations also support switchable transponders for managed lanes. The facility has expanded sustainability initiatives through refurbishment programs that have extended the life of hundreds of thousands of devices since 2017, diverting over 26 tons of electronic waste from landfills. The use of reusable packaging and local component sourcing further reduces waste and transportation impacts.
