Kapta Space Secures $24 Million Series A, Wins Classified Contracts

Kapta Space, a Seattle-based developer of spaceborne radar payloads, has secured $24 million in Series A financing. The round was led by Washington Harbour Partners with participation from Bison Ventures and other investors, bringing Kapta Space's total funding to $30 million.

The newly raised capital will support the scaling of Kapta Space's technology production. This expansion is intended to fulfill multiple classified moving target indication (MTI) contracts the company secured earlier this year. Kapta Space aims to address the challenge of persistent coverage in space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) for tracking moving threats across various domains.

At the core of Kapta Space's offering is its modular MESA™ (Metamaterial Electronically Scanned Array) architecture. This design aims to deliver advanced radar performance with reduced cost, power requirements, and manufacturing complexity compared to traditional Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) systems. This approach is intended to enable large-scale satellite sensing capabilities.

Milton Perque, Founder and CEO of Kapta Space, stated that persistent awareness necessitates rethinking radar operations at the constellation scale, as traditional architectures are cost-prohibitive. The investment will enable technological advancement, manufacturing expansion, and strategic partnerships.

Following the funding round, Kapta Space plans to focus on qualifying its payloads for flight, increasing manufacturing capacity, and preparing for its initial orbital demonstration. These efforts are aimed at positioning the company to supply radar payloads at the scale required for future MTI missions.
