Austin, Texas – The Texas Association of Community Health Plans (TACHP) has recognized Karen Love, a founding member of the organization and President and CEO of Cook Children's Health Plan, as she prepares to retire from her role. Love, who has led Cook Children's Health Plan since 2018, will step down this week.
Janet Walker, President and CEO of TACHP, highlighted Love's extensive career in healthcare. "Karen Love didn't just build a career, she built a legacy," Walker stated. "As President of Cook Children's Health Plan, she helped countless families in North Texas get the care they needed. And as a founding member of TACHP, she helped ensure that those same families had their voices heard in the legislature in Austin."
Love assumed leadership of Cook Children's Health Plan in 2018. Prior to that, she held various positions in healthcare, including Executive Director of the Harris County Healthcare Alliance from 2005 to 2012, and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Community Health Choice from 2012 to 2018. During her tenure at Community Health Choice, she was instrumental in the establishment of TACHP to advocate for community health plans in the state capital.
Craig Smith, TACHP Chair and President and CEO of Driscoll Health Plan, acknowledged Love's contributions. "Karen Love may be leaving but her impact remains," Smith said. "TACHP would not exist had it not been for her leadership and guidance. We congratulate her on a remarkable career."
Love's retirement marks the end of a significant chapter for TACHP, underscoring her foundational role in advocating for and developing community-based health plans across Texas.
