Karmanos Cancer Institute Updates Oncology Clinical Trials App
The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has released an updated version of its KCI Clinical Trials app, enhancing patient and provider access to oncology research opportunities.

DETROIT – The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has launched an updated iteration of its KCI Clinical Trials app, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The new features aim to improve usability and accessibility, facilitating easier discovery and engagement with the institute's actively recruiting cancer treatment clinical trials by patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
The app's enhancements were developed by Karmanos' Clinical Trials Office and research oncology technical support team. The goal is to modernize the platform and improve how patients, their families, and physicians find and interact with clinical trials, potentially leading to more informed treatment decisions. The app currently lists over 160 protocols across 13 locations, led by 33 principal investigators, covering more than 35 cancer types.
"Updating this innovative application marks a pivotal moment for Karmanos. It reinforces our dedication to pioneering advances in cancer care and to providing our patients with treatment options that have shown promise," said Anthony Shields, associate center director of Clinical Science at Karmanos.
Key improvements to the app include a faster, more intelligent search function, a modernized user interface with intuitive design, direct contact capabilities with Karmanos experts, and enhanced access to detailed study information. This includes eligibility criteria, objectives, treatments, study locations, and investigator details, along with integrated drug information and links to clinicaltrials.gov.
