KAYAK offers tips to reduce safari costs in Africa

Travel search engine KAYAK Europe GmbH has published a new guide offering advice for travelers aiming to reduce the costs of an African safari. The publication presents six tips to make a dream safari trip to see the Big Five more affordable.

Safari costs typically include flights, national park entrance fees, accommodation, and activities. Long-haul flights to Africa and stays at remote, luxurious lodges can significantly increase the trip's price. Additionally, fuel costs for game drives contribute to overall expenses.

According to KAYAK's guide, travelers are advised to consider visiting during the off-season. The winter months in many African countries, which often coincide with Europe's summer, can offer lower prices. During this period, animal sightings may also be easier due to sparser vegetation and animals congregating around water sources.

Furthermore, KAYAK suggests self-drive safaris and using campervans as alternatives to luxury lodges. Sharing costs through group tours and choosing less-traveled destinations can also help lower expenses. Shorter "taster" safaris are also mentioned as a cost-effective way to experience African wildlife.
