KBR, Inc. announced on March 23, 2023, its acquisition of Acetica, a technology for acetic acid production. The company stated that this acquisition expands KBR's petrochemical value chain by providing a pathway for CO2 utilization.

The acquired technology enables the back-integration of captured carbon dioxide to produce high-value chemicals such as Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM). VAM is identified as a key ingredient in sustainable coatings, adhesives, and other materials contributing to the net-zero transition.

KBR positions itself as the sole independent global licensor of acetic acid technology. The company indicated that Acetica allows clients to monetize captured carbon by producing high-value products used in everyday applications.

With over 50 years of experience in process technology development and commercialization, KBR stated this acquisition aligns with its strategy to broaden its portfolio of sustainable technology solutions within the syngas and acetyls value chains.
