KBR Ammonia Technology Selected for Saudi Arabia Fertilizer Complex
KBR, Inc. announced its Purifier® technology has been selected by SABIC Agri-Nutrients for a new ammonia plant in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The contract covers technology licensing, basic design, and equipment supply.
HOUSTON – KBR, Inc. announced on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, that SABIC Agri-Nutrients (SABIC AN) has selected its Purifier® technology for a new grassroots ammonia plant in Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This selection marks a significant step in the region's fertilizer production capabilities.
Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide technology licensing, basic engineering design, proprietary equipment, and catalyst supply for a 3,500 metric tons per day (MTPD) single-train ammonia plant. The facility is expected to produce 1.2 million metric tons of ammonia annually. KBR will collaborate with EPC contractor Samsung E&A to deliver the project.
The project is intended to support SABIC AN's strategy to expand its fertilizer production. The new plant is projected to increase the company's urea production capacity from 4.8 million to 7.4 million metric tons per year. KBR's Purifier® configuration is designed to enable lower carbon intensity per ton of ammonia produced.
