HOUSTON – KBR announced it has received a contract from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) with a $350 million ceiling. The contract is for providing advanced technical solutions to the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This award supports the USGS in its mission of Earth observation as the agency prepares for the Landsat Next satellite constellation, slated for launch in 2030.

Under the single Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, KBR will implement cloud-native architectures, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), and advanced software and systems engineering. These solutions are intended to modernize the USGS's mission-critical operations and large-scale IT infrastructure. The focus is on enhancing the agency's capabilities in managing and processing vast amounts of Earth observation data.

The contract will enable KBR to support the USGS in managing data from various sources, including the upcoming Landsat Next program. This program aims to provide enhanced capabilities for monitoring the Earth's resources and environment. KBR's role will involve ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the systems that collect, process, and distribute this critical scientific data.

The USGS EROS Center is a key facility for Earth science data collection and dissemination. KBR's involvement is expected to improve the agency's capacity to handle the increasing volume and complexity of satellite imagery and related geospatial information, thereby supporting scientific research and informed decision-making globally.
