KBR Extends Ammonia Technology Partnership with Clariant Catalysts
KBR and Clariant Catalysts have extended their collaboration for another decade, focusing on optimizing energy efficiency in ammonia production processes.

KBR has renewed its partnership with Clariant Catalysts, marking a ten-year extension of their ongoing technical collaboration. The agreement focuses on integrating KBR’s licensed ammonia production processes with Clariant’s specialty catalyst technologies.
The project aims to lower operating costs and enhance energy efficiency across both traditional and low-carbon ammonia production plants. By optimizing these chemical processes, the companies intend to address the growing global demand for ammonia as both an agricultural input and an emerging energy carrier.
The global ammonia market is currently undergoing a structural shift, moving from fertilizer production toward roles in hydrogen storage and sustainable shipping fuel. Industry projections suggest the market could triple by 2050, as decarbonization efforts intensify. KBR has a significant historical footprint in this sector, having licensed 260 ammonia plants globally since 1943.
