HOUSTON – In April 2019, KBR, Inc. announced the development of its Ammonia 6000® technology for ammonia production. This technology builds upon KBR's established Purifier™ process, which is currently operational in 39 plants worldwide.

The Ammonia 6000® technology enables single-train capacities of up to 6,000 metric tons per day. The objective is to leverage economies of scale, enhance profit margins, and decrease the cost per ton of ammonia produced.

According to the company, Ammonia 6000® offers both lower capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) per metric ton compared to competing offerings. The design eliminates the need for costly Air Separation and Nitrogen Wash Units, and features an intelligent equipment layout that optimizes space and reduces construction requirements.

KBR states that its Purifier™ process has demonstrated industry-leading on-stream records and efficiency in its global applications, with the Ammonia 6000® aiming to further elevate these performance metrics.
