KBR Joint Venture to Deliver First Unmanned Compression Platform in Azerbaijan
KBR's joint venture with Azerbaijan's SOCAR has been contracted by BP to engineer the Caspian region's first unmanned compression platform for the Shah Deniz project. The platform aims to optimize operations and reduce carbon footprint.

KBR, Inc. announced that its joint venture with Azerbaijan's state oil company, SOCAR, known as SOCAR-KBR, has been awarded an engineering services contract by BP Exploration (Shah Deniz) Limited. The contract is for the Shah Deniz compression project located in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea.
The project marks the development of the Caspian region's first compression platform designed for "crewless operations." This unmanned facility is intended to optimize operational processes through the implementation of advanced technology, enhancing efficiency in the offshore sector.
SOCAR-KBR will provide optimization engineering services, including Class 3 engineering. The scope of work also involves designing the integration of the new platform with existing infrastructure. A key objective is to enable the platform to be powered from shore, thereby reducing its carbon footprint and supporting BP's net-zero emission targets.
The Shah Deniz compression project is currently in its early pre-FID (pre-Final Investment Decision) stage. This initiative represents a significant technological advancement for the energy industry in the Caspian region, focusing on automation and environmental sustainability.
