KBR Launches Ammonia 10,000 for Sustainable Energy and Fertilizer Demands
KBR has launched its Ammonia 10,000 technology, with a 10,000 metric tons per day capacity, to meet the growing global demand for clean ammonia and hydrogen in the energy transition.
HOUSTON – KBR, Inc. announced the launch of its Ammonia 10,000 offering, designed to produce 10,000 metric tons per day of blue and green ammonia. This new offering aims to address the increasing global demand for sustainable energy and fertilizers by leveraging the company's proven expertise in capacity scale-up and integrating its designs with advanced digital technologies.
The technology is intended to provide the reliability, flexibility, and scale necessary for the production of clean ammonia and hydrogen to support the energy transition. KBR stated that these "mega" ammonia plants will enable clients to achieve favorable economics and attractive returns on their low-carbon hydrogen investments.
Ammonia is increasingly recognized as a key enabler for a renewable hydrogen economy. Global demand for clean ammonia is projected to grow significantly, driven by its anticipated use in power generation and maritime transport, making larger production facilities more attractive.
KBR holds a leading position in ammonia technology, with approximately 50% of the licensed capacity globally. The company's announcement coincided with its exploration of a potential spin-off for its Mission Technology Solutions business.
