KBR, Inc. has secured a contract to provide technology licensing and basic engineering design for the overhaul of a Fluid Catalytic Cracker (FCC) unit. The project, located in China's Shandong Province, is for a confidential client.

The contract centers on the implementation of KBR's MAXOFIN technology. This process allows existing FCC units to increase the yield of propylene, a critical petrochemical feedstock, while maintaining the flexibility to switch to gasoline production based on prevailing market conditions. This configuration provides a way for operators to adjust output without the capital expense required for building entirely new facilities.

John Derbyshire, President of KBR Technology & Consulting, stated that the project aligns with the company’s objective to offer technical solutions that assist clients in meeting operational goals. While the financial terms were not disclosed, the contract was integrated into the backlog of the firm’s technology and consulting division during the fourth quarter of 2015.
