KBR to license ROSE technology for China's largest SDA unit

Houston, Texas – KBR announced a contract award from Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical Co. Ltd. (ZPC) for the licensing and engineering design of its ROSE® supercritical Solvent De-Asphalting (SDA) technology. ZPC, a subsidiary of Rongsheng Petrochemical Co. Ltd., operates China's largest refinery.

The agreement stipulates that KBR will provide technology licensing and proprietary engineering design for the project. This initiative will result in the construction of the largest SDA unit in China, specifically employing KBR's energy-efficient ROSE process.

The ROSE technology is a supercritical solvent extraction process utilized in crude oil refining. It enables the separation of valuable components from residual oil, which can then be further processed into high-quality fuels and petrochemical feedstocks.

KBR states that the technology is globally recognized for its energy efficiency and its capability to enhance overall refinery yield while minimizing environmental impact. Such investments in growing markets like China indicate an industry trend towards optimizing refining processes and maximizing resource utilization.
