Kelvion, a global heat exchanger manufacturer, has received the 'Schlauer Fuchs' safety prize from the German social accident insurance institution Berufsgenossenschaft Holz und Metal (BGHW). The award recognizes companies demonstrating innovative and exemplary initiatives to improve occupational health and safety, with Kelvion's Herne facility being acknowledged for its successful integration of safety protocols.
The award specifically highlights Kelvion's sustainable approach to integrating safety representatives into daily operations. Through targeted measures, the company has demonstrably improved employee safety and reduced workplace accidents. This initiative addresses common manufacturing sector risks, such as slips, trips, falls, and injuries from sharp objects, by employing a holistic, cross-functional strategy that engages employees at all levels.
Kelvion restructured the role of safety representatives to broadly distribute responsibility for health and safety. The program designates and trains representatives for each production and office area. Quarterly workshops facilitate the exchange of observations and discussions on safety challenges and initiatives. These are supported by weekly inspections using structured checklists, promoting continuous improvement through open dialogue and integration into safety committee meetings.
