Kelvion Supplies Heat Exchangers for Fenagy's Industrial Heat Pumps
Kelvion is supplying specialized brazed plate heat exchangers using CO2 as a natural refrigerant for Fenagy's industrial heat pump systems. The collaboration focuses on advancing sustainable heating solutions.
Kelvion, a supplier of thermal engineering solutions, has partnered with Fenagy, a specialist in industrial heat pumps. Kelvion is providing specially designed brazed plate heat exchangers that utilize CO2 as a natural refrigerant for Fenagy's large-scale CO2 heat pump systems.
These heat exchangers are engineered to withstand pressures up to 130 bar. They serve as gas coolers, reducing the temperature of hot CO2 from the compressor, and can also function as CO2 evaporators within the heat pump cycle. Each unit boasts a capacity exceeding 1,300 kW, enhancing efficiency and simplifying installation by reducing the number of required units.
Fenagy's heat pump systems capture energy from sources such as liquids or air through the evaporation of cold CO2 or hydrocarbons. This absorbed energy is then transferred to the district heating network, offering a sustainable heating alternative. The cold side of the system can also be utilized for cold storage and refrigeration purposes.
Kelvion's research and development team played a significant role in the precise design of these heat exchangers, collaborating with thermodynamics experts. Since their initial order in 2022, Fenagy has procured dozens of Kelvion's plate heat exchangers for their heat pump installations, supporting their mission to deliver environmentally friendly heating and cooling.
