Kelvion's heat exchangers are a critical component in cryocooling systems for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines, according to a company announcement. The solutions have been supplied for over 15 years to SHI Manufacturing & Services (Philippines) Inc. (SHIMS), a subsidiary of SUMITOMO Heavy Industries, Ltd.

SHIMS utilizes these components to ensure the superconducting magnets within MRI machines are kept at ultra-low temperatures. This precise cooling is essential for the accurate, non-invasive imaging that MRI technology provides for medical diagnosis. Failure in the cooling process can lead to significant downtime and impact patient care.

The company stated that its brazed plate heat exchangers (PHEs) are designed to withstand the extreme conditions of cryocoolers. They are characterized by a compact design, a necessity given the limited space available within the cooling units. SHIMS reportedly ordered over 15,000 units in 2022 alone, indicating a strong, long-term business relationship.

Rodell, Head of Purchasing at SHIMS, commented on the partnership, stating that Kelvion has been a consistently reliable supplier meeting high standards for quality and delivery. The company's products support the healthcare industry by ensuring the reliability of essential medical technology.
